DIY Day – Pinterest Macrame Plant Hanger

Hi everyone, it’s intern Kelly here!

Today I am going to show you how to make a macrame plant hanger. This is for beginners, so do not think you need to be an expert on macrame or even know what macrame is. This is the very first time I tried macrame, and it was surprisingly very simple. You can follow my step-by-step instructions, and soon you will have your very own macrame plant hanger!

What You’ll Need:

-3mm cotton string

-scissors

That’s it!

Step 1: The first step is to cut all of your string pieces. You will need 12 pieces in total.

Step 2: Make sure all of your pieces are matched up to be the same length and then tie a knot at the end. You can leave some space from the end to have the string hanging lower from you plant. This will be the bottom section under the plant.

Step 3: Space the string into six pairs of 2.

(I know, this tutorial is very difficult)

Step 4: Tie each pair together with a double knot about 5cm away from the big knot on top.

step 5: Tie each strand to the next strand with another double knot. Just like the previous step.

Step 6: You now have to connect the top two strands to make it a circle. Take the top strand on each side that does not have a second knot in it yet. Connect those two strands with a double knot.

Step 7: You are all done! It is now time to try out your new macrame plant hanger. To hang your plant hanger, tie a craft ring or any sort of ring to the top of the string.

We have a teracotta pot painting class upcoming in the Spring time to paint a vase and plant a succulent just like the one pictured here. You can paint any design you want and then take it home to hang it in your new macrame plant hanger!

If this plant hanger was very simple for you and you would like to do a more complicated design, you can find them on Pinterest or Google Macrame Plant Hanger Tutorial.
