Marcie’s Internship Goodbye
Intern Marcie here… and Felix.
First of all, English is not my strongest subject. In fact, I haven’t written content since I was back at school, where although I did OK I spent most of the lesson drawing new typefaces and doodling on the front cover of my book, so you will have to excuse my writing ability but I hope you can follow my journey as a graphic design intern at Studio 614.
My first observation of the working environment is that a cup of coffee, and the extra shots of espresso are essential. It’s funny that no matter what profession you’re in, essentially the thought process and the get-up-and-go attitude is very influential from a cup, or two, or three & multiple shots of espresso. Once all that hits, I’m immediately in a better mood, happy and ready to create.
One thing that stands out about Studio 614 is that it’s a fun place to work. Everyone gets along, and although people hold higher positions than others, no one thinks they’re better than anyone else. We all laughed, joked, got to know each other and made friendships. I would look forward to coming into work because of the fun working environment Studio 614 has adopted.
This semester we had two pets join us. Intern Felix (dog) and Trinity the 3-legged cat. I hated cats, but now Trinity and I are on BFF level. That’s my girl, nubbins, as I call her. BTW: Trinity hates Felix and he thinks they’re friends. Well, he did eat all her food and chase her at their first meeting. That hissing just means she like him, right?!?!
Studio 614 has taught me a lot and it’s been a great environment for me to learn how a privately owned, local business operates on a day-to-day basis. I enjoyed seeing how a brand really takes shape, and how it evolves from just ideas scribbled down onto a bit of paper to a final outcome, which inevitably becomes the face of a company.
A lot of my friends are in full time work/apprenticeships and complain about their working life and say how boring and crappy it is. Maybe they’re in the wrong profession because my first taste of the working life has been awesome thanks to Studio 614!
Beware!! The couch in the back is a black hole, you will not emerge. I’ve fallen victim to this couch many times.
Best of luck to the future Interns!!!
