The Perfect Holiday Dinner Table with Studio 614 on Good Day Columbus { Fox 28 }
This is my 1 year anniversary with Good Day Columbus!
I’ve been on air once per month since last December, and I can still remember how much I sweat the first time I saw all those lights and cameras. Now, it just feels like home… especially today since I got to set the table all by myself. (;
No matter what your family traditions are for the holidays, you’ll certainly be hosting a nice dinner at home some point this month! Here’s some simple DIY decor to spice up your table and make it a little extra festive.
Disclaimer: NO ARTISTIS ABILITY IS NECESSARY! These are super easy to make, and most of the supplies is probably already in your house collecting dust.
Although it was tough getting to work this morning in this freezing rain, I made it to the Fox 28 office to start my morning with a hearty laugh with Maria & Tom. Below are the full instructions to re-create this table at home.
{ Cranberry & Rosemary Centerpieces }
Supplies needed: fresh cranberries (or fake ’em out with some plastic ones from the craft store), fresh rosemary (should definitely be real so that it smells nice hehe), water, mason jars, glass vases, or clear cups, 1 floating candle.
Begin by filling each jar halfway with warm water. Then, add about 15 cranberries to each jar.
As they float to the top, you may now add a few stems of rosemary to each jar as well and notice that the water helps to activate the scent and spread it throughout the whole room!
You may now add the floating table to the jar in the middle, and be sure that you keep the wick dry so that you can actually light it! This candle, after lit, should last about an hour and a half- so be sure to not light it until it’s time to eat!
Now you have simplistic & elegant DIY centerpieces!
{ Popsicle Stick Potholders }
Supplies needed: popsicle sticks, white paint, glue (Elmers, tacky glue, or hot glue)
Begin by gluing 4 popsicle sticks to create a plus sign. They will be glued in a “stacked” pattern, so the 4 ends will all be stacked on top of eachother (see the center of the snowflake in photo for an example of this).
Next, we will glue 2 popsicles at a time to each of these 4. As you can see in the photo, they point outwards away from the center in an arrow-like pattern. You may then repeat at the end of each of the 4 original popsicle sticks if you’d like to make the snowflake bigger.
To make EVEN bigger, continue gluing 4 more popsicle sticks to the ends of the 4 original ones to keep elongating them. Then repeat the previous step to those ones as well.
Next, we can paint the entire snowflake white with acrylic paint or even a white Sharpie paint pen.
{ Candy Cane Name Tags }
Supplies needed: 3 candy canes (of any color), hot glue or Elmer’s glue, ribbon, paper, scissors, a black pen
Begin with just 2 of the candy canes and the glue. Glue the 2 together at a 90 degree angle so that there is room in the back for the third candy cane to be glued.
However, do NOT glue the third one on until the other two are dry. To allow the first two to dry, set them up against a wall so that they stand straight up. If you don’t do this, they may come apart while drying.
Once you’re ready to glue the third one to the back of the first two, you can also tie a ribbon around the top of all three of them, just to secure them and add that nice touch.
Now that your candy canes are standing upright, you may cut a rectangle out of your paper (of any size, but make sure it fits in between the first 2 candy canes), and then write a name on that paper accordingly.
Then, repeat these steps for however many people are joining you for this lovely, crafty supper!
{ Christmas Tree Napkins }
Lastly, see the below video for a full how-to on the Christmas tree-shaped napkin folding! Just pause and slow down to fold your napkins along with the video.

Don’t forget to also make your cork placemats!
Write questions such as “What was your favorite holiday memory of your childhood?” These type of questions will get everyone at the table interacting, and it’s so important to remember to reflect on the past year, learn from our mistakes, and grow to be the best versions of ourselves in 2017!
It’s just better conversation than talking about the latest celebrity gossip. Although, have you heard about Kanye?
Thank you again TEAM GDC, and happy holidays!

Have you ever played in one those games where you
wonder why the rest of your team-mates bothered turning up
at all?
Well spare a thought for Mpumalanga batter Shania-Lee Swart, who was the only player to
score a run as she hit 160 from 86 balls in a 42-run victory over Easterns during
Cricket South Africa’s Under-19s week in Pretoria on Monday.
Swart’s remarkable innings included 18 fours and
12 sixes. Eight of her team-mates came and went for a grand total
of no runs as her side racked up 169-8 in 20 overs.
(The other nine runs were extras.)

Easterns bowler Tumi Sekukune took an impressive five wickets for 15
runs – but it wasn’t enough to overcome ‘Team Swart’.
For good measure, Swart then chipped in with 2-21 as Eastern were restricted
for 127-6 in reply. http://www.konskie.net/
